Hippocrates said, “all disease begins in the gut.” Over 2,000 years later, we are discovering just how true that statement is. Metabolic problems, inflammatory and autoimmune problems, and, yes, even hemorrhoids, are often related to poor gut health.
Many of my patients suffer from chronic diarrhea or constipation, irritable bowel syndrome and other intestinal maladies. That’s why I’ve recently introduced a new test in my office that can identify the cause for many digestive problems.
The Poop Test, or GI-Map as it’s formally known, assesses over 80 parameters in your stool related to gastrointestinal health. Using DNA technology, the test identifies healthy and disease-causing bacteria, parasites, yeast and viruses, as well as chemicals that indicate gluten sensitivity, leaky gut, inflammation and more. If your results are abnormal, I can provide dietary and lifestyle change recommendations to help you finally resolve your issues.
The Poop Test is done in the privacy of your home and is mailed by you to the lab. We provide the test kit and testing is typically reimbursed by most insurance companies.
But if troubles in your gut have already resulted in the presence of hemorrhoids, I can help with that, too.
I offer two, non-surgical methods to treat hemorrhoids. One reduces the blood flow that feeds the hemorrhoids, improving inflammation and causing them to shrink. The other is better suited to removing larger hemorrhoids. Both take just a few seconds to do. Since they are performed in an area with no nerve endings, they can be administered right in the comfort of my office without anesthesia.
There is virtually no pain, no prep needed, there are no major restrictions, and you don’t have to take time off of work. Our procedures are also covered by insurance.
