Is your butt normal?

A patient returned to my office for a follow-up after a treatment session.

“How are your hemorrhoids doing?” I asked.

“Wow, it’s amazing!” she replied. “I didn’t realize just how annoying my hemorrhoids actually were. I was so used to putting up with them, I had forgotten what normal was like.”

I hear this frequently from patients, so I would like to take a moment to remind readers what normal is like.

Normal is not being afraid to go to the bathroom. Normal is wiping clean without using half a roll of toilet paper. Normal is knowing you can plan a vacation. Normal is not having to decide between light and dark clothing to avoid spotting, and participating in the activities that bring you joy—uninhibited.

Most people live with the symptoms of hemorrhoids, waiting for their lives to become normal again. But just as you wouldn’t simply live with toothache pain, instead of going to the dentist, you shouldn’t live with the abnormal symptoms of hemorrhoids.

Normal is the absence of feeling in your rectum, and that’s exactly the point. Normal doesn’t have a feel. If you’re ready to feel normal again, I can help.

I offer two, non-surgical methods to treat hemorrhoids. One reduces the blood flow that feeds the hemorrhoids, improving inflammation and causing them to shrink. The other is better suited to remove larger hemorrhoids. Both take just a few seconds to do, and since they are performed in an area with no nerve endings they can be administered right in the comfort of my office without anesthesia.

There is virtually no pain, no prep needed, there are no major restrictions, and you don’t have to take time off of work. Our procedures are covered by insurance, so if you’ve met your deductible for the year, now is the perfect time for treatment.
